How to Draw an Orange Step by Step

Drawing an orange may seem like a daunting task, but with this step-by-step tutorial, you’ll be able to create a realistic and impressive orange drawing in no time. Whether you’re an experienced artist or just starting out, these simple instructions will help you capture the essence of this delicious fruit. So grab your pencil and let’s get started!

Orange drawing step by step

Step 1 – Outline the Orange

The first step is to outline the shape of the orange. Remember, an orange is somewhat similar to an oval shape. Take your time to carefully draw the outer shape, ensuring it captures the roundness of the fruit.

Step 2 – Add the Pedicel and Wrinkles

Next, let’s add the pedicel, which is the little green tip on the side of the orange. Draw it with a star-like shape, with slightly larger leaves on the side facing the viewer. Inside the star shape, add a small bump.

To give the orange a realistic touch, draw a few curved lines around the pedicel area to represent the wrinkles commonly found in oranges.

Step 3 – Add Texture and Refine the Drawing

Now, it’s time to add texture to the orange and refine the line drawing. You can use a black pen, marker, or darker pencil lines to go over the initial sketch. To depict texture, add tiny curves on the opposite side of the orange, along the bottom-right area.

If you’re confident in your skills, you can directly draw these curves with a pen or marker. However, if you’re unsure, you can lightly sketch them in pencil first.

Step 4 – Bring the Orange to Life with Colors

In the final step, it’s time to bring your orange drawing to life with colors. Choose your preferred medium, such as paints, colored pencils, or markers. Make the skin of the orange orange (obviously) and color the pedicel green.

To add a touch of realism, leave a few small white spots for reflections. Place the highlight slightly above the pedicel and wrinkles. By adding multiple small white spots, you’ll create a bumpy texture that adds depth to your drawing.

Alternatively, if you have a white correction pen, you can color the entire orange and then add the highlights on top.
