How To Draw A Night Sky – A Step by Step Guide
There’s always a sense of wonder when you take a moment to gaze at the vast sky above. Whether you’re witnessing a stunning sunrise or a sky filled with fluffy clouds, there’s something truly awe-inspiring about observing a night sky. If you find yourself in a location free from tall buildings and city pollution, you’ll be treated to a breathtaking view of stars adorned by the gentle glow of the moon. Learning how to draw a night sky is an excellent way to capture the essence of this extraordinary sight. In this comprehensive tutorial, we will guide you through six simple steps to recreate the magic of a nighttime celestial spectacle!
Let’s Get Started with Drawing a Night Sky
Step 1 – Begin with the Moon and Stars
The moon and stars are two prominent features of the night sky. Hence, we’ll start this guide by focusing on drawing these celestial entities. For this drawing, let’s choose a crescent moon, as it showcases one of the moon’s most beautiful phases. To make it easier, you can use a drawing compass to create the outer edge of the moon. Then, use the same compass to draw the inner edge. If you don’t have a compass, don’t worry! You can do your best to draw it freehand. Once the moon is complete, start drawing stars. In this image, we included six stars of various sizes, but feel free to add more if you wish!
Step 2 – Bring the Clouds to Life
Now that you have drawn the moon and stars, it’s time to add some clouds to your night sky drawing. The clouds in this part will be depicted as a single continuous line with rounded hills. The line should bulge up in three sections, as shown in our reference image. We will add more layers of clouds in the upcoming steps to create depth in the drawing.
Step 3 – Add Another Layer of Clouds
As mentioned earlier, we’ll continue building on the volume of the cloud layers in the next steps. For this layer, use similar bumpy lines to those used in the first cloud layer. Draw another section above the first and second bulges of the initial layer. Extend a bumpy line from the right-hand side of the second bulge, leaving a gap at the end.
Step 4 – Complete the Second Layer of Clouds
In this part of your night sky drawing, we will finish off the second layer of clouds. Extend the final section of this layer to the right of the space you left with the prior step. Once this layer is complete, we can move on to the final touches in the next step, bringing us closer to the last step!
Step 5 – Finalize Your Night Sky Drawing
You’re now ready to add the finishing touches to your night sky picture. In this step, we will incorporate even more clouds into the composition. Use similar bumpy lines extending from the sides of the page, reaching up into the upper layers of the clouds. Feel free to add any extra details you desire. Get creative! Perhaps you could add additional elements to the background for a more captivating scene. What kind of setting would you choose?
Step 6 – Infuse Your Night Sky Drawing with Colors
This is the final step of your night sky drawing, where you’ll bring the artwork to life with colors. Create a gradient of shades of blue throughout the sky to achieve a soft and dreamy effect. Use bright yellows to color the moon and stars. You can even sprinkle the sky with more stars by adding yellow dots. Feel free to explore various colors and art mediums to enhance the mood of your artwork. Your creativity knows no bounds!
