How to Draw a Deer Head in 8 Easy Steps
If you’ve ever wanted to create a stunning deer head drawing, you’re in luck! In this tutorial, I’ll guide you through the process, providing step-by-step instructions and accompanying images to make it super easy for you.
Drawing Supplies You’ll Need
While you can use any drawing supplies you have on hand, I recommend using the following tools for the best results. They will help you achieve the desired level of detail in your deer sketch.
Step 1: Start with Basic Shapes
To begin, create two circles—one larger and one smaller—in your preferred drawing medium. These circles will serve as the foundation for your deer head.
Step 2: Add Definition and Detail
Building upon the larger circle, add two rounded bulges on either side, making sure they slightly overlap the circle. On the left side, extend a curved line downwards, forming the base of the head. For the ears, create soft triangular shapes at the end of the bulges.
Step 3: Connect the Lines
Connect the left ear’s soft triangle to the curved line you drew in the previous step, forming a smooth transition. On the right side, add a smaller bulge below the ear, connecting it back to the smaller circle with a gentle curve. This step helps define the deer’s distinctive head shape.
Step 4: Remove Excess Lines
Once you’re satisfied with the overall structure, erase any overlapping lines, leaving only the clean outlines of your deer head.
Step 5: Add Eye and Facial Features
Within the smaller circle, draw a curved line through the bottom third to create a sense of depth. Towards the rear, form an almond-shaped eye, making sure it has a pronounced curve. Extend the eye slightly towards the snout for added realism.
Step 6: Fine-tune the Details
Outline the inner ears and draw the nose, resembling a whale’s tail with one fin concealed. Fill in the nose and add eyelids to the eye. Take a moment to erase any remaining overlapping lines.
Step 7: Refine and Enhance
With the basic structure complete, it’s time to add the finishing touches. Begin by drawing the antlers, which can be visualized as tree branches. Remember to incorporate angular lines to add depth and dimension. Next, refine the eye by creating a half-circle and leaving a small section uncolored for added realism. Extend a curved line from the snout to form the neck.
Step 8: Adding the Final Flourishes
Once you’re satisfied with the overall look, bring your deer head to life by adding color. Consider adding small fur-like details to enhance the overall effect. And just like that, your beautiful deer head drawing is complete!
