How to Draw a Water Drop Step by Step
This step-by-step tutorial provides easy instructions on how to draw a realistic water drop. Whether you’re a beginner or have some drawing experience, this guide will help you create a stunning water drop illustration.
Before we begin, make sure you have a pencil and eraser on hand. You can also use a blue pencil for coloring later on. Let’s get started!
Step 1 – Sketch the First Half of the Water Drop
To start, lightly draw a straight vertical line in pencil, as shown in the blue example above. This line will act as a guide and can be erased later. On one side of the line, sketch the first half of the water drop.
Step 2 – Mirror the Second Half
On the other side of the vertical line, draw the second half of the water drop. Try to mirror the shape of the first half to achieve symmetry.
Step 3 – Outline the Water Drop
Once you’re satisfied with the shape of the water drop, erase the central guide line. Then, trace over the outline with a black pen or marker. Alternatively, you can darken the lines using a pencil.
Step 4 – Add Color and Highlights
To give depth to the water drop, use a blue pencil to add color and highlights.
Start by outlining a pair of highlights, one larger and one smaller, to represent reflections of light. Fill in the surrounding area with blue, leaving the highlights white.
Next, outline another area at the bottom of the drop. This will be a reflection of the surface below and should be darker. Use darker blue lines to define its shape.
Finally, fill in the bottom reflection with a darker shade of blue by pressing harder on the pencil.
Conclusion
By adding these details and shading techniques, your water drop drawing becomes more captivating and lifelike. The simplicity of this tutorial makes it accessible to artists of all skill levels.
