How to Draw a Pig (with some bling)!

Are you ready to embark on an artistic adventure with your students? In this tutorial, you’ll learn how to draw an adorable pig step-by-step, while also encouraging creativity and adding some “bling” to make each pig unique. Whether you’re a classroom teacher, an art teacher, or a parent/guardian, this lesson is designed with you in mind.

How to Incorporate this Activity in Your Classroom

There are countless ways to use this drawing lesson in your classroom. You can dedicate a day to drawing, perhaps during a fine art Friday or when you have a substitute teacher. If you’re reading a book like Charlotte’s Web, this activity can be paired with the story. For younger children, The Three Little Pigs can be a wonderful complement. You can also have your students write stories, explain the steps, or share their experiences, allowing them to practice their writing skills.

Step-by-Step Guide to Drawing a Pig

To make things as easy as possible for you, I’ve created a handout with six simple steps to draw a pig. Each step is carefully explained, allowing children to follow along effortlessly. You can download the handout from my TPT store [here](insert URL). I’ve consolidated certain elements into steps to make the process smoother. For example, drawing the head and eyes is combined into one step, and the two different ears are included in another step. Think of these six steps as six groupings.

Adding Your Personal Touch

After completing the initial six steps, it’s time to let your students’ creativity shine. They can add their own “bling” to their pigs, such as glasses, pearls, bow ties, or even a nose ring. I’ve included examples to inspire them, but the ultimate goal is for each student to draw what they desire. This is an opportunity for self-expression and imagination to flourish.

Outlining and Painting

Once the pig drawings are complete, you can suggest outlining them with a permanent marker to make them stand out boldly. This step is optional and may not be suitable for every child or classroom. Feel free to adapt it to your specific preferences and needs. And if you’re feeling adventurous, you can take this project to the next level and try painting pigs. Check out my blog post [here](insert URL) for detailed instructions on painting pigs using watercolor or acrylic paint.

Your Experience Matters

Teaching art is an opportunity to connect with your students and foster their creativity. Remember, it’s not just about drawing pigs; it’s about nurturing their artistic abilities and allowing them to explore their imagination. I love seeing the artwork created by students who have followed this lesson, so please feel free to tag me on social media (@artwithjennyk or #artwithjennyk) and share their masterpieces.
