Step-by-Step Instructions on How to Make a Paper Rose

Follow these steps to create your own paper rose:

Step 1: Cut the Petals with the Free Template

Use your preferred color paper for the rose. I recommend 20 lb (80gsm) printer paper for small roses and 55lb (150gsm) to 65lb (180gsm) cardstock for larger roses. Cut four pink 5-petal layers and one green sepal using the provided templates. You can choose between PDF and SVG formats, depending on whether you plan to cut by hand or use a cutting machine.

Step 2: Form the Curves of the Petals

Use scissors to gently curve the petals. Curl both sides of each petal for a natural look.

Step 3: Assemble the Petals

Attach the floral wire gauge #20 to the first layer using a small amount of hot glue. This will secure the stem with the flower layer. Use your fingers and a glue gun to attach the subsequent layers. For a clearer visual guide, refer to the video instructions.

Step 4: Finish the Sepal, Receptacle, and Stem

Cut the sepal template from green paper and glue it at the bottom of the flower. Wrap a small strip of tissue paper to create the receptacle. Use green floral tape to wrap the sepals and stem.

Step 5: Make the Rosebud

There are two styles of rosebuds you can create. The first style requires only one layer (5 petals), while the second style requires two layers (10 petals). Refer to the steps outlined in the previous section on making rose flowers.

Step 6: Make the Paper Rose Leaves

Cut the leaf using the provided template. To achieve a more realistic look, use the technique demonstrated in the video to cut the edge of the leaf. Create leaf veins using the tip of the scissors. Attach the leaf to the wire gauge 26 using white glue. Arrange five leaves to form a rose branch. You can find a tissue paper rose tutorial for the latest technique in creating lifelike rose leaves.

Step-by-Step Instructions to Make Paper Roses

Follow these steps to create your own paper roses:

Step 1: Cut the Templates

You’ll need four layers with two sizes for each rose flower. Use the smaller size for the 1st and 4th layers, and the larger size for the 2nd and 3rd layers. The template is designed to be nearly 4″ in size, resulting in a finished flower measuring 3.5″. You can print the PDF file and cut it with scissors, or use the provided template for cutting machines like Cricut, ScanNCut, and Silhouette Cameo.

Step 2: Form the Curves of the Petals

Use an awl tool to gently curve the petals. Take your time with this step, as precise petal curves and proper glue placement are crucial for creating beautiful flowers.

Step 3: Assemble the Petals

Folding the pentagon shape at the bottom of each layer helps arrange the flower petals accurately. Pay close attention to where the glue is applied at each layer and how to curl the petals to achieve a natural appearance. Watch the video carefully, adjusting the playback speed or re-watching as needed.

Step 4: Make the Sepal, Receptacle, and Stem

Refer to the paper rose tutorial for guidance on assembling the stem with ease.

Step 5: Make the Rose Buds

The new rose bud style is made from a single layer, similar to the first layer of the flower. Follow the same instructions as before, but curl the 3rd and 4th layers in different directions. The leaf template can be found in the SVG file.
