Let’s Get Started: Drawing Santa Claus

Step 1 – Draw a Perfect Circle

To begin, draw a perfect circle in the middle of the upper portion of your paper. If you’re unable to freehand a perfect circle, don’t worry! You can use a compass as a drawing tool to quickly and effortlessly draw a perfect circle. To ensure the circle is positioned correctly in the middle, draw a horizontal and vertical line as reference lines on the paper. The vertical line should be above the horizontal line, and that’s where you should draw the circle.

Step 2 – Draw Santa Claus’ Ears

Draw halfway circle shapes on each side of the outline of the face to create Santa Claus’ ears. Make sure the ears are identical and drawn at the same level. You can use reference lines on the face to align the ears accurately.

Step 3 – Draw the Facial Features

Above Santa Claus’ head, draw a Christmas hat as shown in the illustration. In the middle of the face, draw a curved line for the nose, and add a moustache right underneath. At the bottom of Santa Claus’ face, create a long, stubble beard by drawing continuous curved lines, making the beard look thick and fluffy.

Step 4 – Draw the Torso or Upper Body

Draw the upper body of Santa Claus beneath the beard. Remember that Santa Claus has a chubby body, so make sure to depict that.

Step 5 – Draw the Hem of the Jacket

Create the hem of Santa Claus’ jacket by drawing a rectangular outline along the edge of the clothing.

Step 6 – Draw the Legs

Draw two diagonal lines leaning towards each other to depict Santa Claus’ legs. The shape of the legs should be wider at the top and narrower at the bottom. Add a cuff at the bottom of each leg while keeping them aligned and proportional.

Step 7 – Draw the Shoes Paired With a Belt

Draw a wide belt in the middle of Santa Claus’ torso. Then, draw the shoes beneath the cuff on each leg.

Step 8 – Draw the Arms

To create Santa Claus’ arms, draw two upward diagonal lines on each side of the torso with a cuff at the bottom. Draw the hands wearing a pair of gloves below the cuff. You can choose to position the arms in the same place or adjust them as you prefer.

Step 9 – Add Facial Features

Now that the body of Santa Claus is complete, it’s time to add facial features to give him expression. Start by drawing the outline of his thick eyebrows. Below the eyebrows, draw two small oval shapes for the eyes. Shade the eyes, leaving a tiny dot unshaded. Don’t forget to draw a sideways oval shape on each cheek to create a blushing effect.

And there you have it! Your Santa Claus drawing is nearly finished, awaiting a splash of multiple colors to complete your artwork!
