In this tutorial, we will focus on drawing the anchor from a frontal perspective. The emphasis will be on the line drawing aspect. Refer to the illustration above to preview the different stages of the drawing.

To begin, use a pencil and lightly sketch the lines. This way, if any mistakes are made, they can be easily erased. Later, you can darken the lines with a black pen or marker.

Step 1 – Draw the First Arm of the Anchor

Start by drawing a vertical line in the center of where you want the anchor to be positioned. On one side of this line, draw the first arm and the first half of the shank (the middle part of the anchor).

The arm should be wider at the base and gradually narrow as it extends, ending with an arrowhead-like shape. The shank should also narrow as it goes upward. Additionally, add a pointed tip at the bottom of the anchor.

Step 2 – Draw the Second Arm

Mirror the other half of the anchor by drawing the second arm and the other side of the shank.

Step 3 – Draw the Stock

On each end of the stock, add small sphere-like shapes commonly found on anchors.

Step 5 – Draw the Ring & Finish the Line Drawing

Complete the outline of the anchor by adding the ring at the top. At this point, ensure that your drawing is symmetrical. The two sides should mirror each other as closely as possible. Once satisfied, trace over the lines with a black pen, marker, or darken them with a pencil.

Step 6 – Color the Anchor

Coloring the anchor is quite simple. You can use a regular pencil to make it gray. Alternatively, you can use a marker or any other preferred medium.

With these quick steps, your drawing should be complete.

Conclusion

Drawing a ship’s anchor is an intriguing task. It presents a unique and somewhat unusual object to capture on paper. The main challenge lies in maintaining symmetry between the two sides of the anchor. If you can achieve this, your drawing will turn out beautifully.
