In a heart-wrenching incident in Baltimore, Maryland, two dogs faced a dire situation when their owner abandoned them in a vacant apartment after receiving an eviction order.
The rescue that followed revealed the extent of the canine siblings’ suffering, highlighting the challenges faced by animals in vulnerable situations.

The two dogs, later named Small Fry and Fish Fry by rescuers, were discovered on June 30, emaciated and exhausted. Their lives hung by a thread as they struggled in the empty apartment.
Small Fry, the little girl, was in such a severe state of malnutrition and weakness that she couldn’t stand. Despite her frailty, she mustered all her energy to wag her tail, expressing gratitude towards her rescuers.
Fish Fry, the little brother, played a heroic role in the rescue. Sensing his sister’s critical condition, he barked incessantly, drawing attention and prompting the rescue team to intervene. The timely discovery saved the lives of the two abandoned dogs.

Once in the care of the shelter, the dogs underwent immediate examination to assess their health. Small Fry, described as one of the worst cases of emaciation seen by the shelter staff, was reduced to skin and bones.
The veterinary medical director, with extensive experience treating animals, expressed shock at Small Fry’s distressing condition.
The shelter staff suspects that the dogs endured abandonment in the vacant apartment for at least a week, with Small Fry’s condition indicating severe neglect. Despite the grim circumstances, volunteers provided essential care, and Small Fry is gradually showing signs of recovery.

An update on Small Fry’s condition noted that there were no signs of refeeding syndrome, a concern for severely emaciated animals. The puppy still requires heat support due to an inability to regulate body temperature, but encouragingly, there were attempts to stand up, albeit with weakness.
While Small Fry embarks on a journey to recovery, her little brother, Fish Fry, shows a cheerful and playful demeanor, a testament to the resilience and spirit of animals in the face of adversity.
The volunteers remain dedicated to providing the care and support necessary for the siblings to overcome the trauma they endured and eventually find loving homes forever.
