3 White Lion Cubs, Just 2 Weeks Old, Attempt to Open Eyes and Call for Mother’s Attention for Feeding

In central Poland, the owner of a private zoo is celebrating the arrival of a rare and adorable trio of white lion cubs. Andrzej Pabich, the head of the zoo in Borysew, expressed his joy at the birth of these precious triplets, emphasizing the unique and special nature of white lions. These magnificent creatures often face challenges in reproduction, making the birth of healthy triplets a remarkable occurrence.

The white lion is a captivating color mutation of the Kruger subspecies of the African lion, primarily found in select wildlife reserves in South Africa and zoos worldwide. With only around 90 white lions known to exist, each new birth is a cause for celebration and wonder.

Pabich shared that the mother of the cubs, a 2 ½-year-old white lioness named Azira, has been dutifully caring for her offspring since their birth on January 28th. The father, a 3 ½-year-old white lion called Sahim, remains vigilant in a neighboring enclosure, vocalizing his protective instincts towards his family.

Reflecting on the successful birth, Pabich expressed relief and gratitude for the smooth delivery and the mother’s attentive care towards her newborns.

Despite initial concerns about potential rejections or milk supply issues, Azira demonstrated exceptional maternal instincts, nurturing her cubs with love and dedication. The zoo plans to name the cubs once their genders are identified, and they reach a suitable age for outdoor activities, anticipated in April.

Established in 2008, the Borysew Zoo boasts a diverse collection of animals, including white tigers and white camels, attracting approximately 160,000 visitors annually. Pabich, a machinery mechanic with a deep passion for animals, oversees the operations alongside his son Dariusz and a team of dedicated veterinarians, ensuring the well-being and care of all residents at the zoo.

The birth of these white lion triplets serves as a reminder of the beauty and fragility of nature, highlighting the importance of conservation efforts to protect endangered species like the white lion.

As these precious cubs grow and thrive under the watchful eyes of their devoted parents and caretakers, they symbolize hope for the future of these majestic animals in the wild and in captivity alike.
