Tomm is a remarkable infant, and the only known baby to be delivered with this skin condition. Geoff Tempest, Tom’s father, told 60 Minutes Australia: “When the baby was born, I was shocked, I didn’t anticipate a newborn to have such a condition.” Tomm’s mother said: “My heart was filled with fear and worry, but at the same time, I was thrilled; I held the baby.”

Tomm’s ancestry is still a mystery to scientists. They were unable to determine what caused Tomm’s skin to become ridged and did not know the answer, so they let him grow up.

They could only hope that he would mature into his skin as he aged. In fact, Tomm was so peculiar that researchers spent time and money examining his DNA in an attempt to unravel the enigma surrounding his origin.

Tomm spent a total of two and a half months in the neonatal intensive care unit, where he underwent examinations and analysis. Scientists faced a real challenge since Tomm is the first child in the world to be born with this condition.

Later, they realized that Tomm’s intent was comparable to that of the shar-pei in China, which led him to discover a few answers. Scientists disregarded the presence of amyloids discovered in Tomm’s skin. The same happened to Tomm’s skin, which was one hundred times thicker than the average person.

But, the presence of amyloids will gradually disappear, and the skin will return to its natural state. Doctors hoped and anticipated that this would be the case with Tomm.

Fortunately, it was. His mentor, Dr. Andrew Ramsden, predicted that as Tomm grew older, the condition would nearly disappear. As a result, when Tom grew up beginning as a youngster, his wrinkled skin gradually vanished.

Now that his immunity is improving, some of the cracks in his spine, legs, wrists, and feet are healing. Even the scary infant turned out to be a handsome young man. As his mother, Debbie, who works at the bakery, was telling her story, someone reportedly said, “How can you bring a child in public? The youngster was required to stay at home, and I was furious.”

While Tom’s parents are extremely proud of him, he is also an outstanding student. Also, Tomm’s parents stated that they had nothing to hide from their son.
