Guenther Steiner was known for being a tough team principal during his time at the helm of the Haas Formula 1 team. After becoming a Netflix star over his firm and often sweary nature in the paddock, Steiner became known for his remarks made about drivers based on their performance on track. One of those who received a lot of criticism was Mick Schumacher, with Steiner seemingly detailing how much the German cost the team over £1.

Schumacher was dropped at the end of the 2022 season after 43 races with Haas and has subsequently found it hard to get a full-time race seat at another team, despite there being interest at Alpine this year with the exit of Esteban Ocon. Former driver Hans-Joachim Stuck believes Steiner has effectively ‘destroyed’ Schumacher’s career through his comments in an interview he did with Eurosport.

Stuck believes Steiner’s comments have put a lot of teams off considering Schumacher, who is unlikely to find another way onto the grid any time soon. “The whole thing is from Günther Steiner. He destroyed Schumacher,” said Stuck.
“A young man who is still having his first experiences of destroying his lack of sensitivity and stupidity – that is not possible.
