The Mexico City Grand Prix was mired in controversy but that didn’t stop Carlos Sainz from achieving what could be the final victory of his Ferrari career. Sainz led Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc home, although Norris didn’t get the best reception from the Mexican fans. However, Max Verstappen was once again being scrutinised by F1’s race stewards and received two 10-second penalties for his clashes with Norris on lap 10.
The McLaren driver was run wide heading out of turn four, before Verstappen dived down the inside of him at turn seven, failed to make the corner while pushing Norris even further wide and kept the position. Verstappen avoided being punished for his part in the battle with Norris in Austin but that followed on from the controversy surrounding him in Singapore when he swore during an FIA press conference. The 27-year-old was told he would have to do a day of community service after FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem admitted he wanted to stop drivers swearing during races.

Charles Leclerc accidentally swore in the post-race press conference for the three drivers who finished on the podium and joked he didn’t ‘want to join Max’ in being punished.
However, Steiner believes that RB driver Liam Lawson should be punished if the FIA are going to penalise Verstappen for something he did during the Mexico City Grand Prix. ”When it’s confirmed that he did, Steiner continued: “But why does he not have to clean the streets with Max Verstappen? “It was a gesture, everybody knows the gesture, I mean. “I don’t want either of them doing it, no.
In the press conference, you can just go like this [makes a swearing gesture]. “Johnny Herbert was the steward here I think and he was very outspoken about his grandkids and he doesn’t want them to see or hear these things, I need to speak to Johnny, he’s a friend. We need clarification.
”Carlos Sainz and Franco Colapinto also upset with Liam Lawson after the Mexican Grand PrixLawson has ruffled a few feathers in his two Grand Prix since replacing Daniel Ricciardo after the autumn break. Fernando Alonso was unhappy with Lawson after the Sprint Race in Austin, but the Kiwi got the last laugh by overtaking him on his way to scoring points in the Grand Prix. Heading into the race in Mexico, Lawson knew he was already putting pressure on Perez and Yuki Tsunoda with a battle ensuing for the second seat at Red Bull next year.

Franco Colapinto also spotted Lawson taking his time getting out of Norris’s way, suggesting he still needs to get used to Formula 1’s blue flag rules. Verstappen and Lawson could potentially use their community service days – if Lawson is punished – to get to know each other better ahead of potentially becoming teammates next year.
