FIA Steward insists Red Bull could sack Sergio Perez before end of 2024

Sergio Perez, Yuki Tsunoda, and Liam Lawson are in fierce competition for Red Bull’s second seat in 2025. Recently, Red Bull’s sister team VCARB sacked Daniel Ricciardo due to poor performances and replaced him with Lawson for the rest of the season. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko stated that either Lawson or Tsunoda will be in contention for a spot on the main Red Bull team.

This puts Perez’s future with the Austrian team in doubt. Ex-F1 driver Johnny Herbert stated that Red Bull might drop Checo before the season ends to avoid losing second place in the Constructors’ to Ferrari. At the US GP, Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz both fought for crucial points, while Red Bull relied solely on Max Verstappen to deliver.

Herbert argued that Red Bull needs to replace Sergio Perez with another driver or risk finishing third. However, he questioned whether the Austrian team dared to make such a bold decision before Perez’s home race in Mexico.
