Oscar Piastri claims the ‘swing can be quite big’ in Max Verstappen and Lando Norris’ championship fight

McLaren driver Oscar Piastri has had his say on the title battle between Lando Norris and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen. The latter currently leads the former by 47 points in the drivers’ championship. Lando Norris has been in fine form this season, securing three wins and 12 podiums so far.

He has, however, failed to be clinical despite having the fastest car on some occasions. On the other hand, Max Verstappen, who has not won a race since Barcelona, continues to fight more consistently than Norris. Oscar Piastri, nevertheless, believes that his teammate still has a chance of winning the title this year.

He claims that a tight battle between the top teams will result in opportunities as well as downfalls on certain occasions. I think it’s possible. It’s certainly not an easy task.

In some ways it’s up to both drivers. Lando can’t just win every race and have Max finish second because Max will still win. It depends a bit on the results.

It’s obviously a very tight fight with the top three teams and Mercedes occasionally now still. So the swing either way can still be quite big at the moment, I would say. Max Verstappen and Lando Norris (via The Times)Norris and Verstappen have been friends from a young age and have shared the Formula 1 stage for over five years. The 24-year-old has stated that their duels are unlikely to affect their relationship personally. Some of this is not personal.

He wants to win the championship, I want to win the championship. But the way he can win the championship is a very different way to how I need to win the championship. Whether that changes how we are personally, it probably will a little bit, but this is not my concentration or place for concern at the minute.
