Following the Kansas City Chiefsā thrilling 30-27 victory over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, November 24th, Head Coach Andy Reid praised his teamās performance while highlighting a historic achievement by tight end Travis Kelce. The win, which improved the Chiefsā record to 10-1, saw Kelce surpass Antonio Gates to become the third-highest receiving tight end in NFL history.
Kelceās 19-yard reception during the game brought his career receiving yards total to 11,854, edging out Gatesā previous record of 11,841 yards. Only Jason Witten (13,046 yards) and the legendary Tony Gonzalez (15,127 yards) have more career receiving yards than Kelce.
Despite not finding the end zone during the game, Kelceās contribution helped the Chiefs move closer to a historic three-peat, as they continue their quest to defend their Super Bowl titles.
In his post-game remarks, Reid spoke highly of his playersā efforts, noting standout performances across the board. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes played a critical role in the win, including a key 32-yard scramble that set up the Chiefsā winning field goal. Reid praised Mahomesā ability to read the game and make crucial plays under pressure, something the team has come to rely on.

āI tell you, Pat has a great feel for the game,ā Reid said. āHe knows the coverage, he feels the pressure from the front, and when the gameās on the line, heās got a way of making it happen. The way he operates in those moments is a big reason why weāre successful.ā
As for Kelceās historic feat, Reid expressed immense pride in his tight endās career. āTravis has been a cornerstone of this offense for so many years, and itās fantastic to see him make history like this. He continues to set the bar for tight ends across the league,ā Reid said.
While Kelce is known for his consistency and playmaking ability, the Chiefsā victory also featured a strong defensive showing. Linebacker Nick Bolton again led the defense, while Mike Danaās strip sack played a pivotal role in putting the Panthers on their heels. The defense continued to bend but not break, holding strong when it mattered most, despite the Panthersā efforts to mount a comeback.
However, Reid also acknowledged that there are areas for improvement, particularly with penalties. The Chiefs were penalized nine times for 90 yards, and Reid stressed the need to tighten up in that department moving forward.

On the other side of the ball, the Panthersā second-year quarterback Bryce Young impressed with his early passing performance, completing several key throws to get Carolina into scoring positions. Despite showing promise, the Panthers couldnāt punch in touchdowns and were ultimately limited to field goals, unable to keep up with the Chiefsā offensive firepower.
Despite this, Reid didnāt underestimate the Panthers, who showed signs of growth with their young quarterback and playmakers like wide receiver Adam Thielen and rookie tight end Jatavian Sanders. āI give credit to Carolina. Theyāre building something there,ā Reid said.
In terms of Kelceās personal performance, the tight end also took the opportunity to reflect on his own play. Although he was pleased with the milestone, Kelce admitted that he didnāt feel he played up to his standard in the previous weekās loss to the Buffalo Bills. āI didnāt play my best, and thatās something that really fires me up,ā Kelce said. āItās motivating me to keep working harder, so I can help this team win every week.ā
Kelceās humility and determination speak to his leadership qualities, which have made him not just an elite player but a fan favorite. As the Chiefs push toward another Super Bowl run, Kelce remains focused on the teamās ultimate goal: to win it all again.
Looking ahead, the Chiefs are gearing up for a crucial matchup with their division rivals, the Las Vegas Raiders, later this week. With a historic season on the line, Kelce and Mahomes will look to continue rewriting NFL history, both personally and as part of the Chiefsā championship aspirations.
