Michigan was digging into a discipline, for the aim of drainage when, about eight feet deep; they encountered a substance that looked like wooden. As the Detroit Free Press reports, the farmers quickly realized they were hitting not wooden, however bone.
Is it a dinosaur bone? They referred to as the College of Michigan, who relayed the information to Daniel Fisher, on the facultyâs Museum of Paleontology. Upon arriving on the scene, Fisher determined that they weren’t looking at a dinosaur bone but rather a Mammoth.
Fisher and his colleague had arrived just in time to uncover the Mammothâs skeleton because the farmers wanted to get on with their work, in accordance with the Free Press. They managed to find a head, tusks, ribs, and some vertebrae; the missing pieces could have been removed by individuals who possibly killed the creature for food.
There have been 30 or so different Mammoths discovered within the state, the Free Press reports; this one, Fisher informed the paper, might be a Jeffersonian Mammoth âa hybrid thatâs not quite a Woolly Mammoth and never quite a Columbian Mammoth, but still very giant, very spectacular, and certainly not what you encounter doing fieldwork every day.
