Noah Gray is the second tight end behind Kelce on the Chiefs depth chart, but he is one of Patrick Mahomes’ favorite targets.
This week only further proved that Gray will be an important piece for the Chiefs in the future when Kelce retires.
In the game against the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Gray caught four passes for 66 yards and two touchdowns.
In the previous week against the Buffalo Bills, he also caught four passes for 23 yards and two touchdowns.
This season, Gray has 315 yards and four touchdowns, outpacing some wide receivers in the Chiefs offense.
He also has two more touchdowns than Kelce does this year.
Chiefs fans are taking notice of this strong performance from Gray and sharing their excitement about his future on social media.
“Also how about Noah Gray? He’ll never be Travis Kelce, but the tight end position is in good hands moving forward,” one fan said.
“I think Noah will be a solid replacement for Travis, who may be playing his last season,” another fan said.
“I picked up Noah Gray, and he is on my bench. But he could be next year’s keeper. I think Travis Kelce is going to retire,” a third fan said.’
“He going to replace Kelce,” a fourth fan said.
“Noah Gray is becoming a problem,” a fifth fan said.
Gray is breaking out in a big way this year, but he is giving a lot of the credit to his quarterback.
“He told me what coverage it was pre-snap,” Gray said of one of his touchdowns.
“That’s just the blessing you have of playing with a quarterback like that.
“Offensive line did a great job blocking that up and the receivers did a great job running their routes to pop me open.
“Really just a group effort right there on that touchdown.”
Gray also shared that Mahomes is one of his biggest motivators within the team.
“Pat’s preparation, his leadership is just something that I’m fortunate enough to play alongside,” he said.
“I love it. It gets me motivated every time we go out there for a long drive.
“Having a leader like that, that prepares every single week in-and out, knows defenses, knows the game plans.”
