The road to WrestleMania XL wasn’t as straightforward as one expected it to be. After Cody Rhodes won the Royal Rumble, a rematch against Roman Reigns looked set for the Show of Shows. However, The Rock returned and stole Rhodes’ spot at WrestleMania.
While the two men embraced inside the ring, the Hollywood star whispered something inside Rhodes’ ear. Recently, The American Nightmare finally spilled the beans on what Rock told him. While speaking on the FLAGRANT podcast, Rhodes recalled the infamous moment in Birmingham, Alabama.
According to Rhodes, Rock said that they would both make their dads proud. As such, the 39-year-old star let out a brief smile before heading to the back. Furthermore, Rhodes hilariously recalled how the cameras panned to him in a somber mood.
Although the roof exploded off the arena for the Reigns-Rock faceoff, fans online lambasted the segment. More specifically, the decision to hand over Rhodes’ deserved spot to The Great One. The overwhelming support for the second-generation star led to WWE changing plans for WrestleMania XL.
