Michael Schumacher is one of the most talented racing drivers to ever compete in Formula 1. Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher are the only drivers in F1 history to have won seven world championships, with his spell at Ferrari in the early 2000s one of the best examples of sustained dominance in the sport. It was clear Schumacher was a star after his debut with Jordan in 1991, so much so, that Benetton hired him immediately for the rest of the campaign.
Two championships with Benetton followed before his iconic spell at Ferrari, but Schumacher’s legacy revolves around his incredible pace and some interesting manoeuvres on the track that occasionally got him into hot water. The context was the recent Mexico City Grand Prix won by Carlos Sainz who Jordan was full of praise for.
However, they believed that Red Bull driver Max Verstappen highlighted why he’s been compared to Schumacher when it came to his antics with Lando Norris. Martin Brundle was disappointed in Verstappen after he was given two 10-second time penalties in the space of four corners as he tried to protect his position and his lead in the Drivers’ Championship. Eddie Jordan and David Coulthard compare Max Verstappen to Michael SchumacherReflecting on the race at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, Jordan said: “I think Max has it under control.
Yes, he was very, very tough in Mexico. “Listen, David, we know he is Michael Schumacher in disguise, isn’t he? “Honestly, Max is just a demon when he gets into that car.
When the helmet’s on, the horns grow. No one’s going to pass. “I think [in] Mexico, they gave him a good slap on the wrist, and I hope he learns from it because some of the stuff that we saw is not necessarily what we would like to see, but nevertheless, that’s Max’s race and that’s his style, and he’s not going to lose that.

He appears to understand the interpretation of the current rules better than most drivers, although those regulations have now been called into question. Damon Hill thinks Christian Horner needs to be more honest about Verstappen’s driving in public after using telemetry to try and justify his moves on Norris in Mexico City. In Adelaide in 1994, Schumacher collided with Damon Hill after picking up damage, ending the Brit’s hopes of overtaking him in the championship. Three years later, he tried a similar move on Jacques Villeneuve but mistimed his efforts to push him off the track and was excluded from the championship for dangerous driving. Hamilton witnessed the full force of Verstappen’s driving style in 2021 and it will be interesting to see what lengths he goes to if Norris manages to close the gap even further in the final four races.
