Carlos Sainz is enjoying an impressive end to his career at Ferrari this season having taken two wins for the team and five podiums. The Spaniard came into the season knowing it would be his last with the Italian outfit, as they will replace him with seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton in 2025. There was a lot of speculation over where Sainz would end up on the grid considering neither Red Bull or Mercedes appeared to have openings, while McLaren also has its lineup set in stone for the foreseeable.
After talks with multiple teams on the grid, Sainz will switch to Williams after some convincing from James Vowles, who believes the team will be competitive in the midfield from 2026. The move likely means that Sainz will not be in a position to regularly challenge for wins in the short term, which is why former F1 team boss Eddie Jordan believes he is ‘one the greatest people’ when discussing him on the Formula for Success podcast. Jordan has been impressed with how the Spaniard has handled his exit by being magnanimous, as Ferrari are on the cusp of taking their first title since the 2008 season. “I think he’s [Sainz] a great example to every single person out there, not just in motor racing but in sport. That is resilience.
He is showing me that he is one of the greatest people that has ever been in motor racing because he has been able to tackle adversity in full spirit,” said Jordan. “From Carlos’ point of view, and from his father’s point of view, and what he has delivered for Ferrari, I personally hope he leaves there as being a member of a Constructors’ winning team. ”Photo by Jared C.

McLaren is currently 29 points ahead in the lead, but with both Sainz and Charles Leclerc looking fast on race pace that could end up being a lot closer at the final race in Abu Dhabi.
