Nina arrived at Wright Way Rescue in late November, a victim of cruelty from North Memphis, burdened with a 13lb tumor that had plagued her all her life. In addition to the giant tumor hanging from her abdomen, she carried two smaller tumors down her left mammary chain.

Upon her arrival, Nina was in a pitiable state. She was emaciated, her temperature was elevated, and she suffered from a severe skin infection on her haunches and tail. It was a nerve-racking process to prepare her for the surgery she so desperately needed, as each passing day increased the risk of the tumor rupturing.

Preparation for Nina’s surgery was a painstaking and meticulous process, requiring the expertise of veterinary specialists, comprehensive testing, and essential pre-surgical care. Her weight had to be carefully increased to ensure she could endure the anesthesia.

These efforts were all aimed at improving her chances of surviving a surgery with a high likelihood of significant blood loss and a higher-than-usual fatality risk. The collective determination of the rescue team paid off.

On December 8th, Nina underwent the major surgery with incredible bravery and emerged from it with flying colors. Her resilience in the face of such adversity was awe-inspiring.

After her surgery, Nina was placed in the care of one of Wright-Way’s exceptional medical foster families, where she began to flourish. The post-surgical biopsy results brought a sense of relief, as the smaller tumors were benign, while the larger one was identified as a soft tissue sarcoma.

All signs now point to a healthy recovery for Nina, and she is well on her way to finding her forever home. This brave and determined dog finally has the loving family she deserves, where she is cherished and cared for, free from the burden of the tumor that had haunted her throughout her life.
