Ex-F1 driver declares Fernando Alonso better than legends Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna

Fernando Alonso, a two-time F1 world champion, is seen as one of the sport’s greatest drivers. Known for his skill, determination, and smart race strategies, he has always pushed F1 limits. Fernando Alonso, who won the championship in 2005 and 2006, holds the record for the most race starts in F1.

With 32 Grand Prix wins, he is famous for extracting the best performance from even the toughest cars. Alonso’s ability, combined with his strategic brilliance, has kept him a formidable force on the track, even at the age of 42. Tarso Marques, a teammate to Alonso at Minardi, has stated that the Spaniard was a better driver than Michael Schumacher and Aryton Senna.

Marques argued that Alonson makes fewer mistakes than Senna made in his whole racing career. He even stated that the 42-year-old was better than Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen. I’m a fan of Ayrton Senna like all Brazilians, and there are recent legends like Michael Schumacher, Lewis Hamilton and now Max Verstappen, and it’s very difficult to compare drivers from different eras, but I think Fernando is as good as them or better.

Tarso Marques said (via Spanish Publication Marca)Marques also drew parallels between Alonso and Schumacher. Their battles on the track during the mid-2000s were some of the most intense in F1 history. They pushed each other to the limit, resulting in thrilling races and strategic duels.

However, the German ended up with more championships (seven) to his name than the Spaniard. Despite this, Marques believes that the 42-year-old was better than Schumacher in their battles. If I had to choose a driver for my team, I would choose Fernando.

I think he was better than Schumacher when they raced against each other and, even if the Brazilians get angry, I would say he is also better than Senna. Senna was incredible, he had a natural talent, but the truth is that he made more mistakes than Fernando. Tarso Marques addedRELATEDMercedes F1 book reveals ‘shy at heart’ Lewis Hamilton has a close circle of friendsTarso Marques believes Fernando Alonso is on par with Lewis HamiltonBesides stating that Fernando Alonso was better than Ayrton Senna and Michael Schumacher, Tarso Marques also said that he is just as talented as Lewis Hamilton.

The Mercedes driver, who debuted in 2007 and won his first championship in 2008, impressed with his ability to adapt quickly. Tarso Marques and Fernando Alonso (image via UnracedF1. com)Marques pointed out that Alonso shares this talent of fast learning with the Brit.

He believes that if Alonso had a competitive car, he would have won as many titles as Hamilton. Fernando quickly learned to drive a race not only fast but also intelligently, something I would also say about Hamilton. Fernando is probably the best, along with Hamilton.

I think Fernando should be on his level in terms of number of titles, but sometimes he hasn’t had the right car. Tarso Marques expressedRELATED“He still has what it takes! ” Ex-F1 driver backs Lewis Hamilton to be flying at Ferrari in 2025At the age of 42, Alonso remains optimistic about still achieving great things in F1.

With Adrian Newey joining Aston Martin in 2025, Alonso may finally get a competitive car for a third championship before retiring.
