Guenther Steiner claims Lando Norris’ would’ve been world champion had he ‘nailed every start’ in 2024

Former Haas F1 team principal Guenther Steiner has critiqued McLaren driver Lando Norris post his performance at the Brazilian GP. Norris finished P6 despite starting in pole position at Interlagos last weekend. Lando Norris has been in fine form this season.

Having amassed three wins and 12 podiums, the Brit has notched the best numbers of his career this year. However, the 24-year-old has been fairly lackluster, winning only twice out of seven pole starts this campaign. Guenther Steiner has said that Norris would have had a greater title chance if he made good starts during races.

Steiner also believed that McLaren’s MCL38 would suffice his struggles but was ultimately proven wrong. In theory, Lando should win the races. He should nail the start.

If he would have nailed every start – if, there’s a big if in there – then he will be the champion. But I always thought the car would make it up for him. Guenther Steiner said on The Red Flags Podcast Norris now stands second in the drivers’ championship, trailing by 62 points ahead of the Las Vegas GP.

The last three races might therefore not be sufficient for him to win the title. Nevertheless, the 24-year-old will surely race with all his might to notch good results for the Papayas. Verstappen showcased a brilliant performance, winning from P17 on the grid at Interlagos last weekend. Max Verstappen and Lando Norris (via The Times)McLaren will be a much stronger overall competitor next year, as will Lando. They have got the speed and they have got the technical skills, I think it is just about understanding who you are fighting.

Lando is fighting Max, and Max does not care about anything other than trying to win – you must have that same attitude. David Coulthard told Sunday MirrorDavid Coulthard has since urged Lando Norris to learn from Max Verstappen in order to win more races. Coulthard is sure of Norris’ interest in the coming years but is also wary of where the latter lacks in comparison to the Dutchman.
