Lando Norris ‘not proud’ of stealing Oscar Piastri’s Sprint win via team orders at Brazilian GP

The 2024 Brazillian GP weekend has been going strong for Lando Norris. The Brit won the Sprint race and reduced his deficit to Max Verstappen in the championship by two points. However, this did not come without cost as pole-sitter Oscar Piastri had to give up the victory.

This left a sour taste in the Brit’s mouth, who admitted that he was not proud of the way he won the Sprint race around Interlagos. Oscar Piastri had snubbed the Sprint pole away from Lando Norris in the final minutes of qualifying by delivering a stellar lap. However, the Aussie knew about the ever-real possibility of him having to let his senior teammate through during the Sprint.

Moreover, this strategy was executed by McLaren with a mere two laps to go as Piastri was instructed to swap positions with the Englishman. On the other hand, Norris had been complaining over the McLaren radio for most of the Sprint for not orchestrating a driver swap. However, after taking the chequered flag, the 24-year-old’s statements quickly changed as he was not proud of the way that he won the Sprint race, owing to the win being taken away from Piastri’s hands.

Not proud of it, but we worked well together as a team, but that’s why I thanked Oscar. Oscar deserved it, but we are doing what we have to do. Great pace, so looking forward to the race tomorrow.

Thus, such sacrifices are quite common when a driver is a major candidate for winning the coveted world title. Though they were able to control the situation this time around unlike a few months earlier.

We work hard to have two number 1 drivers. And we work hard to have two team players. And that is what I want to praise today.
