Tire management and maintenance is one of the trickiest parts for a driver during racing in Formula 1. Multiple drivers tend to use different methods to preserve tire degradation throughout the race. However, amidst McLaren’s highly dominant pace, Red Bull has lodged a complaint against the team for using illegal tricks to manipulate tire pressure and temperature.
According to the complaint lodged by Red Bull (AMuS), McLaren and some other rival teams were using illegal methods to manipulate tire temperatures. The teams are allegedly filling their tires with water in order to keep them cooler from the inside while racing. However, the question of where the water enters and exits the tire still remains debated.
Red Bull believed that the teams were using small valves in the tires to inject them with water when desired. The water was injected in the smallest of quantities to achieve the desired effect without any major changes to the telemetry data. Hence, FIA has quickly started investigating the issue and will come forth with a final call on the illegal trick used.
