“It would be a dream to do it one day. I’ll say that,” Ryan Reynolds saidIt’s unlikely Ryan Reynolds will emcee the 2025 Oscars, but he’s open to it in the future. The actor, 48, sat down with Variety for the outlet’s Awards Circuit podcast.
At the episode’s end, the Deadpool & Wolverine star denied he is in conversations to host the awards ceremony when he was asked about reports that he and Hugh Jackman are top choices. “No, I don’t— historically speaking, that is a difficult job, you know,” Reynolds said. “We’ve had people that have come before us that did it flawlessly, I think, and you’ve had people who are so talented and just based on what’s happening out there in the zeitgeist you’re like, ‘Oh, that was hard.
It’s a very hard job. ’ ”“It would be a dream to do it one day. I’ll say that,” he added.
“I’m really just spending the year writing a movie for myself, Hugh [Jackman] and Shawn [Levy] to do that is not Marvel, and that’s kind of it. ”In July, PEOPLE confirmed that Jimmy Kimmel declined to return to emcee the ceremony for a fifth time. Comedian John Mulaney also declined the gig, a source told PEOPLE at the time.
When Deadline reported in October that Reynolds and Jackman, 56, were in the mix of choices to host, the outlet also reported that Will Ferrell, Amy Poehler and Dwayne Johnson had also been approached as potential hosts, citing sources. Reynolds’ Deadpool & Wolverine costar and close friend Jackman previously hosted the 81st Oscars back in 2009. He has also hosted the Tony Awards on four separate occasions.
During Reynolds’ appearance on the Awards Circuit podcast, he pushed back against the idea that he is too “busy” to host the ceremony in 2025 and explained he will focus on spending time with wife Blake Lively and their four children in the new year. “I am not even busy — also, let me say one thing, this is important. Deadpool & Wolverine, like the other Deadpool movies, they consume my entire life,” Reynolds said, noting that he works on the films from their earliest stages through lengthy promo tours.
“I have four kids, and I actually — spoiler alert — love my kids,” he added. “And I love seeing them and I love them seeing me, so this year is kind of devoted, the next 12 months are just going to be with my kids. ”The 97th annual Oscars will air live Sunday, March 2, at 7 p.
m. ET on ABC from the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.
