Toto Wolff joins McLaren to criticize ‘outrageous’ banned Red Bull car trick

Red Bull was recently found itself in spotlight at the US GP following the rumors of the team using an illegal T-tray trick on the chassis. The team received a lot of backlash over this despite Milton Keynes refusing the use of any such methods. McLaren CEO Zak Brown was amongst the many berating Red Bull as even Toto Wolff has joined the same train, criticizing the energy drink manufacturing giant.

Max Verstappen held a neutral stance by claiming that he wasn’t aware of any such tricks being used in the chassis. On the contrary, Sergio Perez ushered his full faith in Red Bull over not using the illegal trick. However, Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff believed that the entire matter was ‘outrageous’ after viewing it from a distance.

My view is, from the distance of what I’ve seen and what I’ve heard, it’s outrageous. Toto Wolff told AutosportToto Wolff further pointed out the fact that all the teams tried to design parts that were not only F1 standard but within the regulations. Red Bull’s alleged use of the ‘T-tray’ trick was unconventional and not expected from the team as Wolff further took a dig.

The Austrian questioned why the system even existed in the first place for Milton Keynes. I think we’re all designing parts that are F1 standard, and that are to the highest specifications that are within the regulations, Sometimes on things like aero elasticity, you would probably try to go as far as you can — but there’s other things overall and certain parts where you would question why they exist. However, Toto Wolff wasn’t having any of it and labeled the tool as a ‘bugs bunny device’. Subsequently, the 53-year-old claimed that this scenario would never come up again in the pinnacle of motorsport after Red Bull was caught. Toto Wolff (via planetf1)I didn’t know that in F1, we were using such Bugs Bunny devices.

It’s not good enough to say that this is it, and we promise that we are not going to do it again. Toto Wolff notedRed Bull is still continuously implementing upgrades in the chassis in hopes of improving performance as the season finale inches closer. The team has already lost out on the constructors’ championship lead to McLaren and will have to work hard to contend for it again.

Regardless, the end-of-the-season battle promises great racing action at the forefront. RELATEDLando Norris goes past Lewis Hamilton to become McLaren’ highest points scorer in F1
